Hard work, resilience and discipline have earned two Accounting students cum laude achievements at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Faculty of Economics and Finance. Their journeys, defined by determination and growth, reflect years of dedication and signal promising futures in the accounting profession.
Diploma- Keitumetse Sefako
Reitumetse Sefako, who graduated with 22 distinctions during the current Autumn graduations, discovered her passion for accounting at just 15 years old and has pursued it with determination from her first year at TUT. Sefako already achieved 11 distinctions in her first year and described the transition to University life as seamless.
“I loved everything about varsity, the experience, the friends and school, with accounting still being my favourite module. I frequented the library each and every day without fail. I knew that I was here for a reason and one reason only,” she said.
The 21-year-old’s determination enabled her to complete her Diploma in Accounting in record time and honour her parents through her academic achievements.
“I knew that I had to make my parents proud. I put in the work needed, even though it wasn’t always easy. The late and restless nights of studying were all worth it. Three years later, I am graduating with 22 distinctions,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey, Sefako said she now wants to step out of her comfort zone, embrace networking opportunities and open herself to new experiences.
Rotondwa Ratshilindela, who completed her Advanced Diploma in Accounting with an average of 74%, chose to challenge herself by pursuing a career in accounting despite initial uncertainty. She described her academic journey as one of growth, learning and self-belief. She added that TUT’s strong academic reputation and practical approach to learning also influenced her decision to study at the institution.
“I wanted to challenge myself and prove that your starting point does not have to limit where you can go. My journey has been a process of growth, adjustment and learning to believe in myself. Choosing TUT was intentional because of its practical approach. I wanted more than just theory; I wanted to be prepared for the real world. Even though I started with uncertainty, I trusted the process and committed to making the most of the opportunity,” she said.

“Over time, things began to change. What once felt impossible started to make sense. I became more confident in my abilities, more disciplined in my approach and more focused on my goals. Looking back, my journey was not perfect, but it was real. And every challenge I faced played a role in shaping who I am today,” she added.
Ratshilindela has since started an internship programme at TUT Tax Clinic where she contributes to the University’s growth and success, proving that her qualification prepared her to work under pressure, think critically and remain disciplined in challenging situations.
“I developed resilience and accountability, qualities that I believe are just as important as technical skills in the workplace. These skills have helped me become more confident in my abilities and better prepared for a professional working environment,” she said.
Looking ahead, Ratshilindela said she is committed to growing her career while continuing to build discipline and resilience.
