FEF Alumni Chapter welcomes new committee to drive engagements

The Alumni Relations Office and the Faculty of Economics and Finance (FEF) have welcomed the newly elected FEF Alumni Chapter committee members, who will lead alumni engagement initiatives following the chapter's launch on 17 September 2026 at the Tshwane University of Technology's Ga-Rankuwa Campus.

Prof Polly Mashigo, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Finance. The chapter, comprising four executive members and 10 community members, will be led by Billy Sepuru, who was elected Chairperson. Sepuru brings extensive leadership experience, having served in various roles at the City of Tshwane and within the Tshwane University of Technology Convocation, where he was Deputy President.

As the newly elected committee begins its tenure, Sepuru said one of its key priorities would be to explore effective ways of reaching and engaging the more than 11 000 graduates associated with the faculty. "This includes finding ways to reconnect with alumni wherever they are, understanding their needs and identifying how they can contribute to the continued growth and development of FEF," he said.

"We also need to strengthen these connections and ensure that more graduates have access to opportunities in both business and employment," he added.

Billy Sepuru, FEF Chairperson, and Zwabudi Muruba, Economist (National Accountant) at Statistics South Africa. Sepuru placed particular emphasis on creating business opportunities for FEF alumni, noting the potential to explore funding opportunities and establish networks that can help graduates grow and sustain their businesses.

Prof Polly Mashigo, Executive Dean of FEF, expressed confidence in the newly elected committee and said the chapter would play an important role in strengthening relationships between the faculty, alumni, industry and students.

"We are going to work with them to ensure their success, and we will develop programmes in line with the objectives outlined during the chapter launch. We also look forward to engaging with and empowering the committee while ensuring it receives continued support from the faculty," she said.

Newly elected Secretary Francis Molekoa described his election as a continuation of the work he had already been doing for the faculty behind the scenes. "I believe the committee will establish the necessary structures to ensure that the chapter thrives during its tenure while creating a strong foundation for future leaders," he said.

The launch marks another step towards strengthening alumni engagement within FEF and creating a platform through which graduates can reconnect with the faculty, access opportunities, support students and contribute to the continued growth and development of the University.
