The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) connected students directly with top-tier employers today at its annual Internal Auditing Day expo. The event, celebrating Internal Auditing Awareness Month, bridged the gap between academia and the corporate world through intensive industry presentations, exhibits and networking.
Exhibitors included representatives from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Pretoria Region, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), who provided students with information on career pathways, professional development and industry expectations. Presentations covered auditing career routes, emerging industry trends and the skills employers seek. Several exhibitors also shared personal career journeys and practical advice for new graduates.
Students who participated in a quiz based on the presentations and answered correctly won prizes while they also had the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals after sessions.
Third-year internal auditing student, Mokgadi Ramolefo, described the event as informative and valuable. She said the expo helped her better understand the range of career opportunities in the field and highlighted the non-academic skills employers expect. “It was motivating to engage with potential employers and learn more about what to expect in the workplace,” Ramolefo said.
For Taung Mamphekgo, an Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing student, the expo provided an opportunity to explore internship opportunities as he prepares to enter the workforce. He said the presentations and discussions gave him a better understanding of the role internal auditing plays in organisations. Mamphekgo also valued the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals and learn more about internship and graduate opportunities.
Closing the event, Professor Nebbel Motubatse, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Finance, thanked students for their strong attendance and urged them to take such opportunities seriously because they contribute to career development. He also thanked exhibitors for providing valuable exposure and encouraged students to remain committed to their studies, acknowledging their contribution to the faculty’s success rate.
